Record 73 Percent Voting In Himachal Assembly Elections

SHIMLA: A record 73 % voter turn out was witnessed in the Himachal assembly elections voting for which concluded at 5 pm today.

Shimla district recorded 65 % polling with Virbhadra Singh’s home tehsil Rampur recording 74% voting. The Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh is contesting from Arki in District Solan while his son Vikramaditya Singh is contesting from Shimla Rural constituency. Former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal is contesting from Sujanpur in Hamirpur district.

Fate of 337 candidates have been locked in the EVMs.  Voting started at 8 am today with small number of voters reaching the booths but as the day began polling too picked up. Till 4 pm 64% polling had taken place.

Among the senior voters were a 108 years old Sita Devi from Palampur district  and another 101 year old Pashmu Devi from Chamba district.

While the election commission claimed arrangements made for the high turn over while the BJP expects a overwhelming majority in the elections the results of which will be declared on 18th December.
